2018 Partners Announced!

LIDS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES

NATIONWIDE FUNDRAISING COMPETITION

LIDS Sports Group and LIDS Foundation to donate $350,000 total in charitable grants to two non-profits

(May 24, 2018) – The LIDS Foundation, a charitable 501(c)(3) organization and the philanthropic support arm of LIDS Sports Group, today announces the partnership with two charitable organizations: Our Military Kids and Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. Both organizations focus on building healthy, active youth programs across the country. This partnership will allow the LIDS Foundation to help support the two charities throughout the rest of the year. With the help of LIDS Sports Group employees, the LIDS Foundation will grant $150,000 to Our Military Kids and $200,000 to Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation by the end of 2018.

To help raise funds, the LIDS Foundation will host a nationwide fundraising competition within LIDS Sports Group internal employees and the retailer’s 1,100 stores nationwide. The competition will be split up between two teams: the “East” will represent Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the “West” will represent Our Military Kids. This fundraising competition will replace the LIDS Foundation’s previous “Tip the Hat Award” grant program in 2018, allowing the retailer to narrow its focus on two deserving non-profits. The following organizations have been selected by the LIDS Foundation for this year's competition:

  • Our Military Kids: Based in McLean, Va., Our Military Kids focuses on children of deployed Guard and Reservists, as well as children of all combat-injured service members. This non-profit helps ease the stress for military kids – who might be experiencing their own PTSD or stress as a result of their parent’s injuries or absence – by paying for them to participate in sports, fine arts and tutoring programs. These activities have helped reduce stress, improve school performance, self-esteem and even boosted the well-being of the whole family. For more information, visit ourmilitarykids.org

  • Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation: The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation works to implement mentoring programs and create youth development parks that directly address the problems facing at-risk youth in distressed communities across the country. This non-profit uses sports-themed activities to bring police officers, youth partners and underserved kids ages 9-14 together on a level playing field to learn invaluable life skills.
